Work order category

Work order categories facilitate work order creation. For some industries, there's no need to define a sequence of shop floor processes as a routing to build an item; for others, there's no need to define a bill of material as a list of components to assemble or process; for many industries, both a routing and a bill of material need to be defined before a finished item can be built or maintained at a production site. A work order category controls the type of work order that's created which can be:

  1. A full assembly line order that uses a routing to assemble a bill of material (BOM) into a finished product.
  2. An assembly order that doesn't need time spent by a shop floor operator to be recorded. The production process might be simple or not relevant, so the production processes don't need to be defined. Overhead costs can be managed separately.
  3. A production line or rework order that only defines a routing. These might be shop floor processes that might not involve parts or components, such as a set of steps for packaging food safely and securely in a food production plant.
