Posting class definition

The posting class definitions are delivered by Sage and cannot be modified. The definitions are linked to the legislation and define the allocation terms for entries.

In the selection panel, use the dropdown menu to search by type:

  • All
  • Customer
  • Item
  • Resource
  • Supplier
  • Tax

Legislation-specific definitions

The posting class definitions delivered by Sage include some that meet requirements for certain legislations.

For example, the item posting class posts to a Goods in transit account. Because a landed cost invoice is assigned to purchase order lines, when the invoice is posted, a journal entry is generated in addition to the AP invoice to post to the Goods in transit account.

To take advantage of this option, the landed cost service option needs to be active. Check with your administrator or business partner if you're not sure.

Additional criteria for some definitions

Certain posting class definitions for French and German legislations include the option for a secondary posting criterion. This includes expense, sales revenue, and landed cost expense. In the Additional criteria field, select Tax to enable the secondary posting criterion.

When you enable this option, the grid on the related Posting class displays on nested lines. The nested lines show the details for the selected Additional criteria. You can then assign dedicated accounts to be used in a journal entry line according to the underlying tax type for the transaction.

Detailed posting class definitions

Posting class definitions are detailed if the Detailed switch is On. When active, it means that you can have more than one posting class for this definition.

For example, if the posting class definition for items is not detailed, the same account for this posting class definition is used for all entries for items. You can only have one set of accounts assigned for that posting class.

On other hand, if the posting class definition for items is detailed, you can assign multiple accounts that are different to that posting class.

Changing the detailed status

You cannot change the switch if at least 1 posting class is linked to this definition.

If you change the Detailed switch to Off, you receive an error message if you have a posting class assigned to the type, such as item, customer, and so on.
