Tip | You can link a labor resource to a resource group, a group of people able to perform the same activity or with the same capabilities. |
Create a labor resource
- On the General tab, enter the main information for the operator such as their name, ID, description, site at which they work, and availability dates.
-
In the Settings block, you can link the operator to a resource group.
A labor resource can be a member of a resource group which is used in routings or work orders. On the Resource group page, you can create a group of people able to perform the same activity or with the same capabilities. Linking the labor resource to a resource group is not mandatory. You can create a labor resource and use it in a routing or work order directly.
See Resource group for more information.
- Select a Weekly shift for this person. This populates the Weekly capacity field and the Weekly shift details grid.
- Enter their Efficiency percentage.
- You can enter a Location.
Add their capability details
On the Capabilities tab, you can add information about the operator's capabilities such as their capability level with specific machines and tools.
If the labor resource is linked to a resource group, a line is already added to the grid with the capability associated with the resource group. You cannot delete it. If the operator does not have the capability required by the resource group, this person should be removed from the resource group, and the capability line is removed from the labor resource record.
To add a new line:
- From the grid, select Add.
- In the panel that opens, enter the operator's capability details.
- Save.
Add their individual labor costs
On the Cost tab, you define individual costs for the labor resource. You enter direct costs for them such as setup and run costs, and indirect costs. These costs are used for routing and work order cost calculations.
Indirect costs are any costs involved in using the resource that are not directly related to a specific job for a work order. For a labor resource, indirect costs can be, for example, annual leave, sick leave, and safety equipment such as overalls, hard hat, and uniforms.
Indirect costs settings are managed on the Indirect cost origin and Indirect cost section pages.
If the labor resource is linked to a resource group, lines are already added to the grid with the costs associated with the resource group. You cannot delete them.
- From the grid, select Add cost category.
- Enter the cost category, cost unit, setup, and run costs. You can also select an indirect cost.
-
A cost category is a classification or grouping of related costs for the purposes of reporting, or the determination of the hourly cost of production.
Each cost category has an associated set of costs. Different cost categories are needed for different production purposes. For example, the costs can differ for various types of machines, manufacturing workshop, or labor skills such as senior technician, technician, or apprentice.
See Cost category for more information.
Edit a labor resource
You can edit a labor resource record even if it is used with a routing or work order. However, existing routings and work orders will not be updated and will continue to contain the labor resource details at the time they were created.
Delete or deactivate a labor resource
You can make a labor resource inactive, effectively removing the operator from the selection lists. To make them inactive, turn the Active switch off.
From the main list, you can select and delete multiple labor resources at once.
If a resource is used for a routing or work order, you need to delete those first.
